August Full Moon Gathering - Sturgeon/Blackberry Moon - Yoga and Guided Meditation with Phoebe Page

  • Roots & River Yoga 17 West Potomac Street Brunswick, MD, 21716 United States (map)

The August Full Sturgeon Supermoon signifies in nature when indigenous tribes converged in the Great Lakes area and many other large bodies of water to fish for sturgeon. These massive, primordial fish are over 200 million years old and still are integral to the survival of lakeside communities. Other names that this full moon has been given include red moon, which denotes the hazy appearance of the moon (particularly in southern locations) in late summer, as well as green corn moon or grain moon to indicate close proximity to the harvest. They signify the incoming abundance of the harvest that begins in September, as well as the grounding energy of late summer where we begin to celebrate the beauty that summertime has gifted us. This moon also is incredibly special because it is one of two full moons that occurs in August, which only occurs every 2.5 years. Honoring the native meanings of the moon can help us celebrate a timeless tradition that crosses the boundaries of ancestral timelines, and brings us into communion with the natural realm.

At this gathering, we will align with the energy of the full moon so that we may harness the potency of all it has to offer, and notice in our physical/emotional bodies the changes we have experienced in the previous cycle. We will briefly discuss the themes associated with the Full August Sturgeon Supermoon, then find our way to a Restorative and Yin Yoga practice accompanied by sound therapy and mantra, and close our practice with a guided meditation designed for deep rest and relaxation.

Cost: $25
