The Earth spins on a tilted axis as the planet orbits the sun. Twice in the course of that yearlong trip around the sun, the Earth is not inclined toward or away from the sun. Each of those instances is an equinox, which is derived from the Latin words for equal (aequus) and night (nox).
During the autumnal equinox, the sun shines directly on the equator, and the northern and southern hemispheres get the same amount of rays. Day and night are of equal lengths. The alignment officially occurs this year at 2:49am on Saturday, September 23.
Equinoxes assist people in tracking time-sensitive activity, such as when to plant or harvest crops. The changing colors of the leaves on deciduous trees is actually triggered by the shorter days with reduced amounts of daylight. It is also an ideal time to psycho-spiritually begin to draw attention and energy inward and reflect on preserving energetic resources.
Come honor the Autumnal Equinox with Amy Lefebvre and Machelle Lee in an evening cultivating stillness, peace and ritual through Restorative Yoga and Sound Healing. Enjoy a cup of tea and some warming fall treats.
Gather comfy blankets and props and grow quiet and soft in your body and mind as Machelle guides you in restful Restorative Yoga while you are immersed in the healing vibrational tones of Amy’s singing crystal bowls. During the practice and sound bath, there will be minimal instruction when shifting poses so that each person can fall into that liminal space, soften the mind, and receive some recalibration and healing.
This Autumnal Equinox ritual will provide you with an opportunity to connect in meaningful conversation, relax and reflect, clear out energies that do not serve you, and make space for creating loving intention as we move into the more introspective seasons of the year.
