Experience the accessibility and joy of Chair Yoga.
Chair yoga is a gentle practice in which the postures are performed while seated and/or standing with the aid of the chair. These meaningful practices provide stretching for increased range of motion, strength building and aid with balance, all without the challenge of getting up and down from the floor. Calming breath work and deepening of awareness as a tool for life off the mat is integrated into each class.
Chair Yoga is ideal for beginners, those with mobility issues who find a typical yoga session too strenuous, and those who want to focus on a gentle practice that brings variety to their yoga experience.
Elaine began her yoga journey over 30 years ago, practicing with her husband as part of a date night out. She was looking for a physical yoga practice that would support and complement her passion for hiking and backpacking. and was delighted to discover that yoga offered so much more! In 2009 Elaine earned a black belt in Combat Tae Kwon Do and became an Assistant Instructor at Mills Martial Arts in Rockville, Maryland. She noticed that her yoga practice was helpful in improving the balance, flexibility and strength needed to safely practice martial arts. She wanted to bring that awareness to her students and began to incorporate yoga poses into her pre-class warmups. This inspired her to become a certified yoga teacher. Elaine enjoys offering yoga to everyone, encouraging students to be playful and mindfully explore while honoring their own bodies. The best yoga practice is one that can be safely sustained and evolves as you grow and change.
