Barre is a low-impact, full-body workout that targets specific muscle groups using small, isometric movements, fast and slow repetitions, and elements of cardio derived from ballet, yoga, and pilates. The practice focuses on developing long, lean muscles while improving your overall strength, flexibility, and posture over time. Typically, a ballet barre (or other form of support such as the back of a chair) is used throughout class to perform exercises specifically targeting the thighs, glutes, and abs. Other props such as small hand weights, resistance bands, yoga straps, and exercise balls are also used in class. This class is typically taught in a 60-minute format and is tailored for all levels. No previous Barre or dance experience necessary.
Leigh is a professional ballet dancer and Cecchetti certified member ballet teacher that discovered the strengthening powers of Yoga, Pilates and barre after an Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis at age 17. While enjoying the wonderful strengthening benefits of these workouts, she noticed the lack of accessibility in these classes that she, and those like her, may need to be successful. With the extra at-home time during COVID-19, she decided to develop a virtual barre workout class and a virtual ballet class for those who may need extra modifications.
Leigh brings an upbeat environment to her barre classes along with a full rounded approach to flexibility, stability, and balance. Her classes have plenty of modifications to ensure that everyone is able to be successful in fitness!
