Yoga is meaningful tool for navigating the stressors of daily life at any age and can be specifically useful for developing children. This 60 minute workshop will educate parents, guardians, and caregivers about the physical and psychological benefits of age-appropriate yoga for children. We will define meditation, mindfulness, and yoga, as well as discuss tangible examples of how these practices can be applied. Parents will recognize how breath, movement, and meditation all fit together to aid children in functioning better emotionally, cognitively, and academically. This workshop will include information on self awareness, emotional wellbeing, effective communication and relationship balance. Participants will also get the chance to enjoy a short practice of each of these modalities during the workshop.
Cost: $20 (if a second parent or guardian wants to attend, email machelle@rootsandriveryoga.com and she will register one more at no cost). Event is limited to 14 participants.
Cathy Spence, MA, RCYT, is currently a 6th grade school teacher. She has been teaching a variety of age groups and subjects since 1993, as well as earned endorsement and certification in Special Education. After practicing yoga for years and experiencing the mental and physical benefits of the practice, she felt the call to teach yoga to children and teens. During the pandemic, and realizing the extra need for physical and emotional support for kids, she completed the 90 hour RCYT certification (Registered Childrens’ Yoga Teacher) through Yoga Ed. She wants to introduce children and adolescents to the art and science of yoga and empower them to gain confidence, which can build a lifetime of health and wellness through their practice. Cathy encourages her students to recognize the power of breath, meditation, and mindfulness through the trauma informed focus of each class..
