The May Flower Moon signifies that Spring has officially come into full swing, as the natural realm seems to have exploded with a lush, green landscape. This moon is named for the blooms that pop up in May. The beautiful life that bursts open is our invitation to be vulnerable, leave our comfort zones to open up to new possibilities. This the time to connect with new dreams and goals, as well as enjoying the lighthearted experiences of love, laughter, and pleasure in all things.
Moon rituals are a magical way to connect with the natural cycles of life and nature. New moons remind us to check in with the parts of ourselves that are expanding and the areas of our lives that are experiencing new beginnings. In yogic philosophy, one big obstacle to letting go of suffering is what lives in our unconsciousness. As the new moon begins in darkness, we can use breath, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra to explore the parts of us that are in the shadows to bring us into our own light.
Feel free to bring a meaningful item to place on the Moon altar for tonight’s practice. It could be a crystal, a picture, a piece of jewelry, really whatever! Maybe something that inspires aspects of the Flower Moon or something that honors the fullness and wholeness of you and this human experience. No previous yoga experience required.
